The Executive Chaiman of Somolu LG, Hon. Abdulhamed Salawu organizes a 3 days ICT Workshop. The event is organized to introduce and network Youths in Somolu to Core ICT skills of Programming, UI/UX Design and Degital Marketing. This first of its kind program will make participants productive and responsible citizens, this is also in line with the THEMES Agenda of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-olu.

SoTech - Somolu Tech Intervention is an innovation hub for technology and entrepreneur training programs. The initiative is positioned to provide critical skills training, funding, and support in ICT and business ventures to youths and entrepreneurs in Somolu. Join us in providing opportunities to the next generation of experts to build a smart Somolu and Lagos at large. The name SoTech depicts leadership and excellence inherent in “Somolu”.

The workshop will run for 3 days.

Day 1 will feature Programming/Coding

Dullar Declares Somolu LG`s 3 days ICT Workshop Open

Somolu youths had the rare opportunity of learning programming for free, courtesy of Hon. Abdulhamed Salawu, The Executive Chairman of Somolu LG. The theme of the workshop is GoTech With SoTech.

It was a day filled with so much anticipation and uncertainty prior to the start of day 01 out of 3 days ICT workshop held inside NUT Hall, Agunbiade Primary School. Bit by bit, pre-registered and unregistered participants arrived at the venue to learn programming.

The program started with the invitation of the distinguished guest to the high table, then it was followed by recitation of Nigeria National Anthem followed by the second stanza as the opening prayer.

Hon Abdulhamed Salawu, The executive Chairman of Somolu LG who was ably represented by the H.O.D of Agric & Youth Department, Hon. Hector Ayo Coker. Also in attendance was The Chairperson of Somolu LG, Hon. Mariam Salawu, other distinguished dignitaries were Hon. Adeeso Sodiq, Senior Special Adviser on Education, Somolu Local Government. Hon. Oluwatosin Taiwo Odubanjo, Supervisor for ICT, Somolu LG. Lastly, Hon. Kola Muhammed, Special Adviser on ICT to The Executive Chairman, Somolu LG.

Hon. Abdulhamed Salawu declared the workshop open and urged the participants to take full opportunity presented to them by learning and being useful youths. He promised to give further support to the ICT / Tech requirements of deserving youths. He added that the workshop is in line with the THEMES Agenda of Gov. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-olu.

After the declaration, the facilitator of day 01, Mr. Abbas Yinka Joda, a proficient software engineer/developer trained over 35 youths.

Media houses like TVC, Ibrand TV and Ms. Busola Kukoyi of LTV8 were available to add color and content to the workshop via their coverage and special interview sessions to dignitaries, facilitators and some participant. Ms. Busola a veteran broadcaster anchored the program to the delight of everyone present.

The workshop continues on day 2, 23 November 2022 with UI/UX Design.

Day 02 - UI/UX Design.

Day 02 of Somolu ICT Workshop continues with UI/UX Design

following the sterling performance of day 1 of the ongoing ICT workshop, day 2 picked up with an amazing and inspiring session of theoretical and practical training of UI/UX design.

The session was handled by Mr. Sunkanmi Ademuyiwa a product designer with experience in human-centered designs. Has creative thinking skill to create usable, functional & delightful digital products. He has expertise in developing Designs for brand promotions, Web, and Mobile app Interfaces.

Participants were thrilled to a rewarding session mixed with real life examples and practical approach to building a web and mobile design and interface. He was ably assisted my the SA on ICT, Kola Muhammed, a UI/UX Designer who showed participants how to use the design tool called Figma.

Day 2 witnessed some special guest appearances which includes:

Hon. Adeeso Sodiq, Senior Special Assistant on Education, Somolu LG

Hon. Oluwarotimi Oluyede, Former Special Adviser on Environment Somolu LG and a community champion.

Participants gave appraisal, asked questions and gave sincere kudos to the Executive Chairman of Somolu Local Government, Hon. Abdulhamed Salawu for coming up with a transformational initiative.

Day 3, the last day comes up on Thursday 24th November with Digital Marketing.

Day 03 - Digital Marketing

Somolu ICT Workshop Concludes With Digital Marketing.

Somolu youths and its environs once again step out in their expectant numbers to skill up at the on-going 3 days ICT Workshop. Thursday, November 24, 2022 is the last of the series.

One by one, in pairs and in group, participants arrived and filled up the NUT hall for the workshop. The facilitator for day 03, Mr. Kayode Oyebanji wasted no time to delve into the business of the day - Digital Marketing.

He explained some Core Digital Marketing Categories like:

Search Engine Optimization (SEO),

Content Marketing

Social Media Marketing

Website Design

Email Marketing

Copywriting Affiliate Marketing

Pay Per Click (PPC)

Kayode practically took the participants on how to use some digital tools to professionally promote their goods and services, get noticed and sell faster with key emphasis on professionalism. Participants had much more to say and work with as upcoming Digital Marketers at the end of the presentation.

After feedbacks and comments from some participants, Ms. Oyekunle Olumide and Mr. Idrees Akorede who expressed resounding gratitude to The Executive Chairman of Somolu LG, Hon. Abdulhamed Salawu for making this workshop come up for the first time in the history of Somolu Local Government. They added that they were initially skeptical about the content and quality of the workshop, however, attending the workshop gave them a new world of ICT/Digital Experience and knowlege.

Special guest appearance was made by Hon. Oluwarotimi Oluyede, former Special Adviser on Environment and a community champion who extolled the virtue of the Local Government boss for taking a bold and impressive step to organize this 3 days workshop, he urged participants to go further and use this opportunity to be useful in their chosen fields and the society at large.

Largely supported by the Supervisor on ICT, Hon. Oluwatosin Taiwo Odubanjo, the 3 days workshop was brought to a fruitful and promising end by the organizer Olukola Kabir Muhammed, Special Adviser on ICT to the chairman, Somolu Local Government.
